Case Study: Decomposing a 14-Year-Old Dispatch Monolith in Logistics

The Context & Constraint

A major Pacific logistics operator managed daily freight dispatch across hundreds of ports using an enterprise Java monolith developed in 2010. The core database suffered from severe table locks every morning at 07:00 when automated route calculations coincided with commercial billing exports.

A previous attempt by an external agency to rewrite the system from scratch had been abandoned after 18 months due to runaway scope and missing edge-case specifications.

The Spark Axisbase Strategy & Outcome

We instituted a 12-week Strangler Fig advisory program. We designed an Anti-Corruption Layer to isolate the Fleet Dispatch context while leaving Billing and Telemetry attached to legacy tables temporarily.
